Tell Us About Yourself!

I’m Mathilde, a French expat living in Barcelona for the past 10 years. I started my career managing boutique hotels, where I honed the art of multitasking and keeping cool under pressure (almost always). Fast forward a few years, I switched gears to tech: I worked on building web apps, automating processes, and also launched a mobile app on my own. This last experience reminded me how much I love driving projects from start to finish, which is why I’m now diving into product management.

What's the most adventurous thing you've ever done, and what did you learn from it?

The most adventurous thing I’ve ever done was completely shifting my career from hospitality management to IT. Going from managing boutique hotels to learning how to code during the pandemic was a leap of faith. It meant starting from scratch, diving into a world I knew little about, and embracing the challenges of learning something entirely new.

What I learned is that adaptability and a willingness to take risks can lead to incredible growth. It also taught me that my skills in understanding people, solving problems, and managing teams are just as valuable in tech as they were in hospitality, giving me the confidence to reinvent myself and pursue what truly inspires me.

What's the most memorable piece of advice you've received, and how has it influenced your life?

The most memorable piece of advice I’ve received is that investing in yourself is the best decision you can make. This mindset guided me when I decided to shift from hospitality to IT, even though it meant starting from scratch and stepping into the unknown.

It taught me that dedicating time and effort to grow—both personally and professionally—is never wasted. This belief has encouraged me to take bold steps and still shapes how I approach opportunities and challenges, always focused on moving forward.

What's the most valuable lesson you've learned from a failure or setback in your life?

The most valuable lesson I’ve learned from a failure is that setbacks are often the best opportunities for growth. When I first transitioned from hospitality to IT, I underestimated how challenging it would be to start from scratch in such a technical field. Early on, I struggled with imposter syndrome and even faced moments where I doubted my ability to succeed.

What I learned from that experience is the importance of resilience and self-compassion. Failing isn’t the end—it’s part of the process. Each mistake helped me refine my skills, and each challenge taught me to adapt and persevere. This lesson has stuck with me, reminding me that growth often comes from the moments when things don’t go as planned.
