About Emerson
- Full Name: Emerson Lucena
- Home country: Brazil 🇧🇷
- Position: Fullstack Developer
Please tell us a bit about yourself!
Well, I'm Emerson Lucena, but you can call me Erms if you want. I'm 21 years old and I enjoy playing some games, strumming my old guitar, and travelling. My journey began at High School, where I studied computer networks for three years. It was an awesome stage in my life where I saw HTML for the first time. After school, I started my bachelor's in Computer Science at Universidade Estadual do Ceará. There, I had my first contact with programming and my first job opportunity in the area appeared. Since then, I gained more and more experience until I saw Matheus' post on LinkedIn offering the best opportunity I've ever seen. The best part: I was able to be part of the team based on what they were looking for. So, here I am! I'm a normal guy from Brazil's Northeast, but one who likes to give his best in doing something. I have now reached what I had dreamed of reaching at 30 but I did it at 21. Life is good. Keep dreaming!
What are your long-term career goals, and how do you plan to achieve them?
My goals for the future are to continue achieving what I'm accomplishing now at MVST, to acquire as much knowledge as possible, and to begin assisting people who share similar aspirations. However, I aspire to go beyond that — I want to be part of something truly significant, something that impacts several people and is new and unique through technology. I plan to achieve these goals by continuously studying, practicing, learning from mistakes, connecting with amazing people, and pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
What's the most adventurous thing you've ever done, and what did you learn from it?
A year ago I tried to build something useful for my reality but I didn't know how. The idea was to build something that allows me to consult the Uber fare from anywhere to my home. You know, when you are young and you don't have a car, usually you check the Uber prices to request a ride when the rate is lower, isn't it? With that in mind, I bought a smart band, cheap and simple, but that had a bluetooth connection to my phone. But I got stuck with some technical stuff. When I was taking a nap, I woke up suddenly with the solution in mind. So I sat in front of my computer and I started coding. So, I built this small project and then published it on my LinkedIn profile telling my connections what I have made. Do you know what happened? More than 350,000 people saw my post and I got 6k+ likes. That was amazing! What did I learn from it? Small things can have a great impact!
Do you have any helpful advice for people who want to pursue the same career as you?
Keep working hard and enjoying each process in your life. Good achievements are made of good opportunities. Be ready for when a good opportunity pops up and you will reach your goals. Study when you can, and don't be afraid to try new things. Mistake the most you can. Learn from them. Make good friends. Plan every step you are going to take. And enjoy the process. In short, be happy!
