Boosting User Experience with Kartenmacherei: A Website Rebrush
In June 2024, MVST partnered with Kartenmacherei, a leading German e-commerce platform specializing in personalized cards for special occasions such as weddings, baptisms, and birthdays. The project’s primary focus was to refine and modernize the look and feel of their website—a massive platform with multiple products, pages, and user flows—by implementing a full UI rebrush. The challenge lay not just in revamping the aesthetics, but in navigating the complexities of legacy code across such a vast platform.

The collaboration between MVST and Kartenmacherei was built on a shared vision, enhancing the user experience by giving the website a fresh and modern design without altering its core functionalities.
The goal of the rebrush was simple yet impactful: updating the website’s fonts, colors, paddings, and logo to bring a clean, contemporary look to every corner of their extensive platform.
With such a large and complex e-commerce site, this was no small feat. The redesign needed to seamlessly blend into the legacy framework, enhancing the aesthetic appeal without compromising the usability or stability of the platform.
The Product Concept: Breathing New Life into Legacy Code
This project was a full UI rebrush—focused on updating the visual aspects of the site, such as changing fonts, adjusting paddings, modernizing colors, and refreshing the logo. Although the changes didn’t alter any core features, they were pivotal in creating a more pleasant and engaging user experience.
The Design Process: Our design team worked closely with Kartenmacherei’s stakeholders to create a comprehensive Figma file. They mapped out the new look of the website and meticulously went through every user flow, updating each button, text, and visual element to align with the new design guidelines, ensuring consistency across the entire platform.
Software Development: One of the key challenges we encountered was working with the platform’s legacy code, which had been in place for a long time and required careful handling. Jessi, an internal tool used by Kartenmacherei customers to edit their cards for various occasions, was a major focus area.
Our CTO led the rebrush implementation for Jessi, while also managing A/B tests and analytics to enhance user engagement. A full-stack developer took charge of the remaining platform, navigating the complexities of the legacy code.
We ensured open lines of communication with Kartenmacherei’s team throughout the process. Every obstacle was reported and explained, and solutions were put into place quickly. Thanks to this transparency and continuous iteration, we managed to meet our deadlines and deliver a visually polished and highly functional rebrush.
